Accessibility – Hele: Carousel Music Box

Made for every hand.

Toys should not exclude. This is what Hele does and where it still falls short.

For children

Every control is the object itself: a large brass key, a lever and a roof knob. The key accepts any turning motion, not a precise circle, and a Big key option grows the touch area. Nothing depends on reading. Nothing times out or punishes.

Sound is not required to understand the toy. The riders turn when it plays and slow when it stops; the key visibly winds; the lever visibly tilts.

VoiceOver

The key, lever and roof knob are labelled and adjustable: swipe up on the key to wind one notch. The lever is a button. The roof knob has Reset and Next tune actions. The parent sheet is a standard list with headings and values read aloud.

Switch Control and Voice Control

All controls work with single-switch scanning. Wind, Stop, Reset and Next tune are also exposed as App Shortcuts, so "Wind Hele" works by voice.

Dynamic Type

Parent text follows your system size up to the largest accessibility sizes. The child’s screen has no text.

Reduce Motion

When Reduce Motion is on, easing flattens, coasts shorten and haptics turn off by default. The riders still turn, since that is the toy, but nothing else animates.

Hearing

Haptics mark each key notch, the full-wind stop and the lever, so winding can be felt. Sleep mode shows remaining time as text.

Colour and light

The palette is warm and low contrast by design, for bedtime. Text in the parent sheet meets WCAG AA against its background. Night dimming can be turned off if the screen is too dark to see.
