Low stimulation, decision by decision

“Low stimulation” is usually a promise. Here it is a list of things that were left out, and you can check every one of them against the app.

Nothing moves until your child moves it

There is no play button, because there are no buttons at all. The toy sits still until a finger turns the brass key. Nothing starts on its own when the app opens, nothing plays a preview, and there is no chrome around the object: no bar, no tabs, no badge, not even a status bar.

It ends by itself

One wind lasts about half a minute. The tune slows as the spring runs out and the last note rings on its own. Then it stops. There is no loop, nothing queued to follow it, no autoplay into something else, and nothing appears to ask whether your child would like more.

The screen never gets brighter than the room

The whole app sits on one warm, dark ground. With Night dimming on, the object drops to half brightness after eight in the evening. In Sleep mode it dims further, and when the timer ends the screen fades to dark over three seconds and stays dark until the phone locks. Nothing flashes, nothing pulses and nothing lights up to get attention.

The sound goes down, not up

Sleep mode holds the tune at about a third of its normal tempo and drops the music-box comb by six decibels. The mechanical sounds, the ratchet and the wooden clack, stop entirely, and so do the haptics. Nothing in the app is ever louder than the thing before it.

Nothing is trying to hold your child there

No stars, no sparkles, no rewards, no streaks, no levels and no collection to complete. No character looks out of the screen at your child. Nothing opens up by playing longer, and the only things a child can touch are the key, the lever and the knob on the roof.

Nothing is being collected

No account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking. The app makes no network requests of its own. It is published in the Kids category and built to Apple’s Kids rules and COPPA, so there are no links out, no social features and nothing that can open a browser. Privacy in full.

What the parent gets instead

Everything for you sits behind a two-second hold: the riders, the tune, how long a wind lasts, Night dimming, and a Sleep timer of 15, 30 or 45 minutes. Your child never sees a setting or a price. Sleep and Stop are also on the Home Screen as quick actions, with no gate and nothing that costs money, for the nights when you start it from the doorway.

If you want the toy to be the only thing reachable, Guided Access holds it on screen: triple-click the side button.

What this page does not claim

This describes what the app does, not what it does to your child. Whether a quieter screen at bedtime helps is a question for you and your pediatrician, not for the person who made the app. What is on offer here is a toy that ends on its own and then leaves you alone.

Judge it yourself

Everything on this page is checkable in about a minute. The music box runs in a browser with nothing to install.
