Hele is an app, not a wooden toy. It was made in Manila for one child’s bedtime, and it is named after the Filipino word for lullaby.

One gesture

I wanted a toy a child could work without being taught. It came down to one gesture: turn the key, watch it play. The feel lived in the details, like the carousel slowing as the spring runs out.

Everything else followed from that. No buttons on the child’s screen. Nothing that depends on reading. No stars and no rewards. Every setting and every price behind a press-and-hold gate the child never opens.

Carved, not shipped

There is no physical Hele. The music box is modeled, lit and turned inside the phone: a beech base, a brass key, carved riders and an eighteen-note comb. It was built to hold up close, which is why the wood has grain and the key gets heavier as the spring loads.

Who made it

I am Hans Allí, a digital design consultant in Manila. I studied Information Design at the Ateneo de Manila University, then spent fourteen years designing and building for the web: UI and UX, information architecture, content strategy, and the front-end build that turns a design file into something people actually use. I started in a web agency, spent a stretch at an app agency designing consumer products on iOS and Android, then came back to the web to co-found Dthree Digital, a Manila web consultancy I lead as managing director.

I grew up in a woodworks family, and Hele brought me back to where I started, which was building things with my hands: Lego first, then model kits. I designed and built it with AI assisting on the engineering and as a sounding board. What made or broke it was still design. The interface had to make sense to a two-year-old who cannot read, and to a parent at the end of a long day.

What it does not do

Nothing leaves the device. No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no network requests except to Apple for purchases. Packs are named and bought once, behind the parent gate. There is no subscription.
